What We Inspect

Every storm leaves a fingerprint. We know where to look.

After a major Florida storm, damage isn't always visible from the ground. We climb the roof, walk the deck, and document with high-resolution photos so your insurance adjuster has everything they need to approve a fair claim.

  • Shingles — lifting, missing, granule loss, creasing
  • Flashing & valleys — separations, displacement, sealant failures
  • Vents & penetrations — boot cracks, dislodged caps
  • Soffits, fascia, gutters — wind and impact damage
  • Decking — sagging, water intrusion, exposed sheathing
  • Skylights, chimneys, ridges — full visual inspection
How It Works

From inspection to dry roof — we handle it.

Free inspection

We climb the roof, document everything with photos, and write up a clear damage report.

Emergency tarping

If your roof is leaking, we tarp it the same day or next day to stop interior damage while you wait for the adjuster.

Adjuster meet-up

We meet your insurance adjuster on the roof and walk through every documented item — together.

Quality replacement

Once the claim is approved, we install your new GAF, Worthouse, or Fortified Roof™ system to manufacturer spec.

Wind damage

Lifted shingles, missing tabs, crease damage, displaced flashing. Often invisible from the street but obvious from the roof itself.

Hail damage

Granule loss, dented soft metals (gutters, vents, AC fins), cracked or bruised shingle mats. Class 4 impact-rated systems resist hail far better.

Hurricane damage

Combination wind + water + impact damage. Often involves decking, structural framing, soffits, and interior water intrusion. Document everything.

FAQ

Storm & insurance questions.

What should I do right after a hurricane?

Stay out of the home if you see structural damage. Document everything you can safely photograph, contact your insurance carrier to start a claim, and call a certified roofer for an inspection. Don't sign any 'AOB' (assignment of benefits) paperwork from door-knockers — many of them are storm chasers who disappear after the deposit. We never ask for AOB.

Does First Light help file insurance claims?

Yes. We provide free wind, hail, and hurricane inspections, full photo documentation, written reports your adjuster needs, and direct adjuster coordination at no charge. We don't charge claim handling fees and we never ask for assignment of benefits.

How quickly can you inspect after a storm?

We typically schedule storm inspections within 48–72 hours during active storm season. For active leaks, we offer same-day or next-day emergency tarping to stop interior damage while we work the claim.

Can my insurance company force me to use their preferred contractor?

No. In Florida, you have the legal right to choose your own roofing contractor. Your insurer can recommend, but they cannot require — and you should always pick a licensed, certified contractor with a local presence and verifiable warranties.
